Our Cause…

The Radhadesh Goshala is dedicated to the compassionate care and protection of cows, providing a sanctuary where they can live in peace and security, free from harm and exploitation. Our mission emphasizes holistic well-being through proper nutrition, veterinary care, and loving companionship. We also aim to educate the community about animal welfare and the spiritual significance of cows in our culture, fostering a culture of compassion and responsibility towards all living beings. Together, we can create a brighter future for our cows and the community.

Our Story

Radhadesh Goshala, located in the picturesque region of Belgium at the Radhadesh ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) community, was established in the early 1990s as a sanctuary for cows, embodying the principles of compassion and reverence for all living beings. The Goshala serves as a refuge for cows and oxen. This initiative aligns with the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita and the broader ISKCON philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of protecting and caring for cows as sacred animals.

Over the years, the Goshala has evolved into a vital part of the Radhadesh community, helping Radhadesh move towards self-sufficiency by providing fresh milk and cow dung for various uses, including organic farming and maintenance of the community. This sustainable approach not only supports the daily needs of the community but also reinforces the Goshala's mission of animal welfare and spiritual growth. Through its efforts, Radhadesh Goshala has become a beacon of hope and a testament to the principles of love and compassion that underpin the Hare Krishna movement.

Why cows?

Safeguarding cows is essential for cultural respect, ecological balance, and ethical farming practices, highlighting their vital role in both agriculture and society.

Three key reasons for protecting cows:

Cultural
Significance

Cows are revered in many cultures, especially in Hinduism, where they symbolize purity and are considered sacred.

Sustainable
Agriculture

They contribute to soil fertility through their manure and help maintain healthy ecosystems through grazing.

Ethical
Treatment

Protecting cows promotes humane treatment and addresses concerns about inhumane conditions in factory farming, leading to higher-quality products.
